Movistar Plus+ to launch SkyShowtime, becoming the best entertainment offer in Spain

The agreement will bring SkyShowtime’s wide range of content with major film titles and Hollywood series to Movistar Plus+’s platform

With this alliance, Movistar Plus+ reaffirms its leadership in the Spanish market and consolidates its strategy as an aggregator that already includes global and national operators

SkyShowtime will be available to all customers of the Ficción miMovistar package from the beginning of 2024

SkyShowtime will be integrated in Movistar Plus+ so that consumers have seamless and easy access through the platform's main navigation and on-demand service. In addition, a new linear channel will be launched

Movistar Plus+ and SkyShowtime announced a new multi-year agreement, bringing SkyShowtime to Telefónica's TV offering.

From early 2024, SkyShowtime, with its exclusive selection of international and Spanish-language series and the newest theatrical releases from Paramount and Universal, will be included in the Ficción miMovistar package.

Movistar Plus+ becomes the first Spanish operator to launch SkyShowtime.

Access to SkyShowtime's content will be integrated as part of the platform's main navigation and available on-demand. In addition, a new dedicated SkyShowtime linear channel will be launched featuring its new releases, films, and series. 

The agreement strengthens the position of both companies in the Spanish market. With this new partnership, Movistar Plus+ reaffirms its leadership position in the Spanish market and consolidates its strategy as an aggregator that already brings together global and national operators. SkyShowtime gains new subscribers on Spain’s leading platform, significantly expanding its reach and footprint.

Subscribers of Ficción miMovistar package will be able to access an attractive entertainment offer that adds SkyShowtime’s large number of hit movies and original series, including content from the iconic brands of Universal Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount+, SHOWTIME®, Sky Studios and Peacock, as well as SkyShowtime's original series.

Among the titles coming to Movistar Plus+’s clients in 2024 are Oscar® nominee Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, a series starring Oscar winner Kevin Costner, 1923, starring Oscar nominee Harrison Ford and Oscar winner Helen Mirren, and Tulsa King, starring Oscar nominee Sylvester Stallone, along with Sheridan's new series, Special Ops: Lioness, starring Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Michael Kelly, and Oscar winners Morgan Freeman and Nicole Kidman.

Other series that will be available on Movistar Plus+ via SkyShowtime include HALO, which takes place in the universe that first debuted in 2001’s megahit videogame; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the latest instalment in the Star Trek franchise that is a prequel to the original series and is based on the years that Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise; and the triumphant return of the iconic comedy Frasier starring Kelsey Grammer.

SkyShowtime Original Series include global hits and Spanish-language productions such as Emmy® Award nominee Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne, and Fleeting Lies (Mentiras Pasajeras), executive produced by Esther García, Agustín Almodóvar and Academy Award winner Pedro Almodóvar. Fleeting Lies (Mentiras Pasajeras) features an all-star cast including Elena Anaya, Pilar Castro, Hugo Silva, Quim Gutiérrez, and Susi Sánchez, alongside an A-list roster of guest stars including María Botto, Pedro Casablanc, Estefanía de los Santos and María León. Other Spanish-language SkyShowtime Original series include Bosé, The Invisible Ladies (Las Invisibles), The Envoys (Los Enviados) and Por H o Por B.

SkyShowtime’s line-up also includes a selection of first-run Hollywood movies, premiering exclusively on SkyShowtime after their theatrical release window, including Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
