SkyShowtime today revealed the key art and premiere date for The Cop. A New Chapter (Glina. Nowy rozdział) – a continuation of the legendary drama series Glina which originally aired more than a decade ago. The new six-part series will premiere exclusively on SkyShowtime from 16 October.
Although many years have passed, the problems faced by the Homicide Department of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police remain painfully relevant. Officers continue to confront violence, death, and the dark aspects of human nature every single day. Joining the seasoned detectives Banaś (Maciej Stuhr) and Jóźwiak (Jacek Braciak) is a young, ambitious police officer - Tamara Rudnik (Nela Maciejewska). Right from the start, she is thrown into the heart of the brutal Warsaw underworld, where the lines between good and evil often blur dangerously. As each investigation raises more questions than answers, the officers must face not only ruthless criminals but also their own inner demons.
Maciej Stuhr, speaking about returning to the role of Artur Banaś, said: “The key question for me while working on this new instalment was how Artur Banaś has changed over the years. Those who remember the original series Glina know the huge toll it took on him the first time he pulled the trigger and killed someone. That was one of the most important themes of the show. Later, Artur had to pull the trigger many more times. But what happens to him in this continuation is very different from the past. His years in the police have left a deep mark. Maciej Maciejewski wrote this perfectly. He showed that you cannot do this job without paying the price.”
Jacek Braciak, on his character Jóźwiak, commented: “I view Jóźwiak with a certain leniency. He’s solid, old-fashioned, with tried-and-true methods, though not exactly a genius. But I like him. I think he’s likable in his toughness. He’s also a deeply family-oriented man, devoted to his loved ones, which – I imagine – isn’t easy when you work in homicide.”
Nela Maciejewska, who joins the cast as Tamara Rudnik, added: “You could say I dreamed of this role. I always wanted to play a policewoman – a strong, determined woman who runs, shoots, and investigates. The fact that my dream is coming true alongside Maciej Stuhr and Jacek Braciak is an incredible privilege.”
The Cop. A New Chapter (Glina. Nowy rozdział) is a co-production between SkyShowtime and Telewizja Polska, with Apple Film producing. The series is directed by Władysław Pasikowski (Kroll, Psy) and Dariusz Jabłoński (Zasada przyjemności, Wino truskawkowe), while the script is written by Maciej Maciejewski. Magdalena Górka (Jack Strong, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds) and Piotr Lenar (Pitbull, Kryminalni) are responsible for the cinematography and Michał Lorenc for the music.
All episodes of Glina, which originally aired on TVP between 2004–2008, are available to stream now on SkyShowtime.
The Cop. A New Chapter (Glina. Nowy rozdział) is the latest Polish original series from SkyShowtime, following the drama Warszawianka, the crime drama Deadly Ties (Śleboda) and thriller Langer, which is based on the novel by Remigiusz Mróz. Later this year, SkyShowtime will also premiere its first Polish documentary Krychowiak: One Step from the Top (Krychowiak: krok od szczytu).
