SkyShowtime renews hit original series Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) following breakout success
SkyShowtime today announced that its hit original series Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) will return for a second season. The dark Swedish dramedy, created and directed by Felix Herngren (Sunny Side, Bonus Family) and filmed on location in Mallorca, has quickly become one of the platform’s standout performers of the year, driven by its blend of dark humour and emotional depth.
Within its first three weeks, the series delivered high engagement and strong viewer retention across SkyShowtime markets and ranked as the most-watched title in Sweden this year*, underscoring its strong local appeal.
The renewal reflects the series’ exceptional performance and supports SkyShowtime’s continued investment in originals, with more new titles set to premiere in 2026. Veronika was SkyShowtime’s first original renewal with the second season premiering on 8 December, and a Season 3 has also just been announced.
Since its debut, Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) has resonated with viewers and been praised for its compelling characters, sharp writing, and the vibrant depiction of life’s unexpected twists.
The series follows Tom (Per Lasson) and Petra (Lisa Linnertorp), a successful couple who built up a large Ica Maxi store in Nyköping and sold it for a record sum. They have been living a life of luxury in Mallorca with their sons for a month, ready to enjoy an eternal vacation. But their lives take an unexpected turn during Tom's 50th birthday party, leading his brother Timmy (Erik “Jerka” Johansson) and his wife Maja (Rakel Wärmländer) to move their family to the sunny climes of Mallorca, where chaos ensues.
Kai Finke, Chief Content Officer at SkyShowtime said: “The response to Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) has been incredible, with viewership in Sweden in particular exceeding our expectations. Audiences have truly connected with the show’s dark humour, the very real cultural clashes, and the dreams that inspired it. We are very excited to continue collaborating with Felix Herngren and the great team at FLX for Season 2.”
Series creator and director Felix Herngren said: “I’m enormously glad to be able to keep building and exploring life as an expat here on the island. Mallorca may be one of Europe’s most beautiful corners, but it also has a quiet mystery to it - the kind that somehow finds its way into your inner depths and your trickiest challenges. I’m also deeply grateful that the audience has found the series and received it so warmly, and to SkyShowtime for a fantastic collaboration and for believing in this slightly odd and wonderful project so wholeheartedly.''
Where the Sun Always Shines (Där Solen Alltid Skiner) is produced by Scandinavian production company FLX, created and directed by Felix Herngren (Sunny Side, Bonus Family), and produced by Sussan Treschow (Jana – Marked for life, Meaning of Life) with SkyShowtime as co-producer. Head scriptwriter Erik Ahrnbom (Thin Blue Line, Keep It Together) joins for Season 2, alongside writers Maria Nygren (Meaning of Life, Love & Anarchy) and Martin Larsson (Keep It Together) with Jessica Ericstam (Sunny Side, Meaning of Life) serving as Executive Producer for FLX.
