SkyShowtime today revealed a teaser clip and range of images for its steamy new Swedish original drama series The Trio (Trion), based on the beloved bestseller by Johanna Hedman. The first two episodes will premiere exclusively on 1 June, followed by two new episodes weekly.
Starring August Wittgenstein (Das Boot, Faithless), Felix Sandman (Quicksand, Home for Christmas), Seth Manteus, Rebecka Harper and Nina Zanjani, The Trio (Trion) vividly brings to life Hedman’s novel of three young people irresistibly drawn together as they navigate the risks and possibilities of love, sex and passion. The cast also includes Alfonsina Bejerano, Eva Röse, Adam Pålsson and Celie Sparre in supporting roles.
Stylishly intimate, the teaser clip hints at the overlapping and emotionally interconnected love triangle that evolves as their lives intertwine.
When middle-aged Hugo is approached by the daughter of both his childhood loves, he is immediately thrown twenty years back in time to when, about to embark on his first year at university, he moved to Stockholm to live with the Stiller family. Here he meets Thora Stiller and her constant companion and occasional lover, August, and is plunged into a complex and passionate dynamic which alters the course of his life forever. Two decades later Hugo remains haunted by the past - will he finally dare to reclaim everything he lost?
Laced with yearning and nostalgia, The Trio (Trion) combines a sensuous, sophisticated love story with a poignant, bittersweet reflection on the relentless passage of time, and through rich characterisation and emotional storytelling the series explores Hedman’s timeless themes of desire and loss.
The Trio (Trion) is produced by SF Studios in co-production with SkyShowtime, SVT, Film Stockholm, ZDF and Night Train Media. Ina Sohlberg, Tina Bergström, Emma Hägglund and Susann Billberg Rydholm will serve as producers and executive producers respectively for SF Studios. The six-part series is written by Veronica Zacco with Anders Hazelius at the helm as director.
